A very dental day

Lots going on in Barnhill teeth news today!

The kids and I had our 6 month check up today. Matthew's teeth have all come in beautifully. He only has 2 or 3 more to lose and they are as straight as an arrow. However, Matthew's canine teeth, that would make Edward Cullen shudder with fear, are coming in on top of his baby canines. He will need an orthodontist consult to decide when to pull the baby canines and slap braces on his fangs. There is no anticipation of his life in braces being more than a few months. Matthew can hardly wait. He was very disappointed when his teeth were coming in so straight because he wanted braces so badly. Loves spending his parents' money!

Thomas's teeth are coming in perfectly as well. The dentist anticipates that when his bigger teeth come in, they will push his two front teeth together. The jury is still out on if he will need braces, but if he does, it will be a minor thing like big brother.

Mary Beth LOVES going to the dentist. A few months after each cleaning, she starts asking when she gets to see Elizabeth, her hygenist, again. Her bottom two teeth are starting to get loose, which makes her a little scared. I freaked out as a child when I had a loose tooth, so I can relate. She asked the boys in the car what it felt like to lose a tooth. One said it felt like a marshmallow, the other said it felt like a gunshot to your heart. Do I even need to reveal which brother said what? ;) Fortunately, she is used to big brother's antics and laughed.

The kids did their best to sit still and be good while I was getting my teeth cleaned. The dentist found a spot that looked like it might develop into a cavity. When I asked why it was that I never had a cavity until I was a mother of three, he said it was because I was getting old. AWESOME! Anyway, Thomas was playing with his new DS XL. After being Outstanding Citizen and never making below a 97 all year, Bryon and I felt the kid needed a little somethin' somethin'. It has a record button on it where you can play back your voice or have it altered. After my three cavity-less children heard that Mommy had a cavity, Thomas recorded, "Mommy has a cavity." Then, while my mouth was wide opened getting my teeth cleaned, he replayed "Mommy has a cavity, Mommy has a cavity, Mommy has a cavity....." Then Mary Beth got a hold of it and started playing "Mommy has a cavity" in a robot voice, then in a hamster voice. I was a captive audience and couldn't help but just laugh!

Now about the picture....

After we spent several hours at the dentist today, we had Matthew's end of the baseball season pool party. The kids enjoyed swimming for over 2 hours. When I was packing up to go, Matthew jumped on the diving board and wanted to show me one more amazing dive. He dove in and came up with his hand over his mouth. "Mom! I think I chipped my tooth!" This made me weak kneed, and I asked his coach to look at his mouth to survey the damage. Sho enough, the kid chipped his front tooth. This is the same front tooth that chipped in half when he fell face first on the tile at church when he was in kindergarten. Leave it to Matthew to chip off half a veneer of a previously chipped tooth!

He was in a lot of pain last night and had a red nose and upper lip. The only thing that made him laugh was when he declared that he looked like the guy from Dumb and Dumber! Especially with his hair flat on his head from swimming. Yes, he has seen the cover of the movie, no he hasn't watched it.

So, we will be running back to the dentist today (I hope)! Life, as I always say, is never boring with Matthew!
