Tim Russert, our weekend, and Mary Beth

As many of you, I was stunned on Friday afternoon to hear of the passing of Tim Russert.

I had always respected him, but really felt a connection to him after reading his book, Big Russ and Me. I picked it up the week it was released and read it in a day. The reason it struck a chord with me, is that I felt like I was reading about my mother growing up. My mother grew up as an Irish Catholic in New York just like Tim. Both families had three girls and a boy. There were great stories of his neighborhood with tiny houses filled with a million kids. Mom always said that her house was a popular destination as they had a smaller family (4 kids) compared to the most neighbors with larger families! More room to play! He also described life in parochial schools. I told Mom after I read that book that I really understood what her life was like growing up.

I also loved hearing his take on politics. I DVR the Today Show every morning and usually fast forward through the first part. There is only so much commentary on the primaries that I could stand so early in the morning! But I would always stop when Tim Russert was on. I am really going to miss seeing his face.

We had a great time in Conroe and Houston this weekend. Since we have had a game every weekend since Christmas, we hadn't been to Bryon's parents house since Thanksgiving. We enjoyed our usual haunts, and it was fun seeing my nieces. Mary Beth is sandwiched between the older two, and I know she enjoys time with her girl cousins! We also enjoyed catching up with my in laws and sister in law.

Matthew did a great job in his performance, and it was so much fun to see how excited he was to play with so many friends. He is already looking forward to next year!

Mary Beth was diagnosed with her first bladder infection since her surgery on Thursday. She isn't getting any better, and has been sleeping on the couch all morning, so I am taking her back to the doctor today to see what we can do. Anytime anything bladder/kidney pops up with Mary Beth, I am deeply concerned. I will be glad to have some answers this afternoon.

I loved Tim Russert and have been so sad this weekend too. I can't imagine the next few months without him! I love the things you wrote about his background. Hope that ME is okay... I know that is so scary!

Oh, I know how you feel about Tim Russert. It was so neat to hear the interview with his son this morning on Today. Hope ME is feeling better soon!

I was so sad about Tim Russert's death. I echo what Karen said--his son did a great job this morning on the Today show. I was surprised that he was so composed, but he shared great memories.

Update us on ME. As you may remember, Korley has urinary reflux too. She just had another VCUG last week and the reflux is still prevalent, so we may be facing surgery as well. I hope ME feels better soon!!

Tim Russert was a favorite of mine, too, and I'm so sad that he won't be with us to help make sense of the upcoming election. He lived his life with such integrity and passion for his family. I loved seeing his son on the Today Show this morning - he is so much like his father.

I too will miss TR. So sad that the one political guy I can stand is gone! 58 is to young to die.

Hate that ME is having to deal with this again! Hope all goes well at the docs and she is feeling better in no time!
