Well, after one day of 3 inch boot wearing, makeup applying, and non pony tailing, we are back to elastic waistbands and granola! No school today! Today marks the 5th day of freezing weather with sleet and/or snow. As much as I love this weather, it has stuck around just long enough to make me ready for it to move on! We haven't had a week of regular school since early December, so next week is going to be very LONG. We are loving having Matthew and Bryon with us again today!
Bundle up and stay warm! Tonight, I am making chicken and dumplings. Last night was corn chowder, one of my favorite meals from childhood:
5-6 slices of cooked bacon
1 medium onion
2 C cooked corn (frozen is always best)
1 C cooked, diced potato
1 can mushroom soup
2 1/2 C milk (the closer to whole, the better)
1 t. salt
pepper, garlic salt, and parsley to taste
I add a few shakes of tabasco on mine as well!
Garnish with crumbled bacon
Had a thought.

Corn chowder sounds YUMMY!
Every return-to-school-after-long-break has been full of tears at my house. We only went late today, didn't miss, but tomorrow at 8 a.m. will be TOUGH. Then next week? 5 whole days of school AND work? Seriously ... I think it's time for vacation! Or at least above-freezing temps! In the 40's by Sunday! It's a heat wave!
It's BRRR cold in Alabama, but none of the wet stuff came here. Sorry ya'll have had it so rough.
Gonna give that corn chowder a try.
Sounds perfect! I'll have to try this!
Mmm, that sounds delicious!
Last night I made Chili's Chicken Enchilada soup. Yummy:)
We have been eating on potato soup at our house. This sounds delicious! Thanks for sharing.
We are having the warmest winter up here in NY. It is finally cold today and i can finally wear winter sweaters. I remember those snow days when the kids were young. We always made homemade pretzels on snow days. Enjoy these days they go by very quickly.
Give up the recipe Shelly!
That sounds good!
And how do you make homemade pretzels Aunt Barbara!
I have already printed that one out--I was looking for a GREAT corn chowder recipe the other day and couldn't find one--I will fix this one this soon.
Thanks!
Hey there! I've been catching up on your blog. Hope your daughter is feeling better- the pic of her low rise jeans is cute! Also hope you guys are finding a way to deal with the ice - I'd honestly like a bit of ice here in Jacksonville...it's too warm for me! As for the recipe, I'll have to try it out!!
OK- please don't think I am crazy- I still have no idea how I found your blog- we have someone in common? I'm not sure who yet, but I was just clicking around- new to this world and finding names I thought were familiar and catching up with old friends. I saw Elizabeth and said to myself, "wouldn't that be funny if that was Elizabeth Robinson?" I don't know what made me think of it- it has only been about 20 years! Well, as soon as I saw your picture, I knew it was the girl I had so much fun with in Abilene, Texas. This is Melanie from Canyon Court. I can't belive it! My email is natedhills@msn.com- love to catch up with you. I apologize for intruding on your site, I wanted you to know I just remember your friendship. God Bless~
This is why I love blogging! Melanie, you were my FAVORITE friend in 5th grade and I never forgot you.
Sounds good for one of these cold & rainy days we are having right now. I may be braving the rain for a trip to the grocery store to get the stuff to make it!
