Being surrounded by it, I have come to adore the mystery that is "Little Boys". However, loving it and understanding it are two different things.
Case in point: Matthew has a good friend and teammate who broke his arm a few weeks ago goofing off. Now Matthew and his friends are convinced that breaking an arm is the coolest thing. "You get to have everyone sign your cast!"
Now, Matthew is jumping from the tree in our backyard and saying things like, "I wonder if this will break my arm?"
I have tried over and over to convince him how much he would hate not being able to use his arm for 6 weeks and there is a good chance that goofing off could result in a broken skull. Still, I have spent much of his 6 years trying to keep him out of the emergency room and once Matthew sets his mind on something...
Wish me luck!
OK, I feel like a bonefied pack mule. Bryon hauled dirt well into the evening last night into my vegetable bed. There was a HUGE pile left over. He told me last night that he would put a tarp over the rest and we could finish the job when he got home. He recommended I leave it alone.
This morning when he left, I asked him why he didn't put a tarp on the dirt. He winked at me and told me he knew me and knew that the milisecond he drove off, I would be working on getting that pile of dirt into my flower beds! Oh, he knows me too well!
Six hours of hard labor (thankfully the kids were at MDO for some of it), every muscle in my body on fire, several outbreaks of poison ivy, bruised shins, beginnings of blisters on my hands, and 4 sliced up fingers later, I finished the job! Perhaps not the smartest idea, but once I get my mind set on something...I am so going to regret that decision in the morning!
Had a thought.

My brothers were a lot like Matthew. My parents made many visits to the ER. They would look at a stick and think, "Let's make spears and throw them at eachother!" One brother still has a scar on his cheek from that incident. Both brothers are successful and in one piece. Good Luck!

I remember having my first friend break their arm and thinking the cast was so cool...I suppose some things never change. Being a girl though I never tried to break my own arm.
I am the same determined one you are. Once something is started I want it finished soon. All the projects going on around our house are killing me right now. I have learned the hard way to wait for Cary to get home for some things. Example: When we were still he was getting his masters and we were newly married I tried to move the TV one night while he was at class. I of course dropped it and broke the picture tube and we had to get a new TV. I did learn a little at least with more expensive items.
Yes, Erica! We got our wood floors put in a few months ago and I couldn't wait for Bryon to get home and put all of our furniture back in place. I did it myself and paid with lots of back pain the next day!
Stay on ibuprofen -- every 4 hours. A hot bath, and maybe you should even get a massage and pedicure! :-)
I wonder where Matthew gets his "perseverance" (hard-headedness)..???
Yes, DJG, it is a mystery!
My mother laughs and says that I am getting a little glimpse into my own childhood with Matthew!
I was going to say what DJG said. :) So maybe I instead of dragging my swollen ankles to the nursery and then out into the back yard to plant, I will just mooch off the the bumper crop grown by my good friend Elizabeth! :)
Steph-
Mi tomato es su tomato.
Isn't it irritating when we see our children have inherited some of our not so great traits! Hubby and I are always, saying things like "I know where she get that from" My in laws just went for a drive and came back with a new car, so I told hubby, now I see where the impulse buying comes from! I sure hope that Matthew does not succeed in breaking that arm and getting a "not so cool" itchy, hot cast!
It didn't even occur to me when I was writing this blog that I was describing a trait that Matthew and I both share! That's hilarious.
Roll Tide! It's always nice to meet a Bama fan. You and Kristen are such great bloggers. Hopefully I can learn more soon and do a better job on mine. I've got to get an updated post on this weekend--I'm so behind! How do you know Kristen?
RTR!
Hmmmm....how do I know Kristen...Where do I begin?
I met her in high school when I moved to Waco.
Her mother and my mother are best friends.
My husband and I introduced her to her husband (best friends with my husband since the first grade).
I was a bridesmaid in her wedding, my husband was the best man.
Her brother and my sister went to Harding together.
Yes, I think that just about covers it!
Elizabeth...
I lost you! I didn't know you changed addresses...oops! I'll spend a few days catching up...I missed reading your stories.
Tesney and I are friends here in Tuscaloosa! We're excited about her baby. And it's a boy, too!

That is so funny. I actually thought the other day, "I never hear from Mommy of Boys anymore!"
I had to change my url for a few reasons and thought that I was able to let most people know.
Ahhh...you missed me too! It's like seeing an old friend again. Hope you have a fantastic weekend.
