this weekend

The primary focus of this weekend has been taking care of my poor sick baby. Friday night, we went out to eat and noticed that ME was warm. Ever since then, her fever has been between 101 and 104. She hasn't had so much as a sniffle since around January so it has been hard watching her feel so bad. I guess we will be calling the doctor in the morning. Monday morning doctor visit...should be interesting.

I spent a lot of the weekend cooking. I helped Lauren make a meal for a friend who just had a baby. My part was chocolate mousse which is Bryon's favorite dessert. I ended up making 1 1/2 batches for him this weekend!

Matthew and I had some good one on one time yesterday. When I ask him point blank, "How is school?" his standard answer is, "Great!" He answers questions very directly. He only gives the exact answer to the question and no more. I have found that he loves doing "act outs". He pretends to be Mrs. B and I am Matthew. He then gives tons of information to me! What she says, what she does, what the other kids say, etc. We did this a lot when he was in Montessori. I guess we will be doing act outs everyday!

Lauren and I went to see Red Eye last night. I really liked it. Our husbands hate "scary" movies so they were only too happy to not have to see that one!

Since Mary Beth was sick, I stayed home today and cleaned and organized the house. I have all of my groceries bought, most of the food cooked for the week, all of Matthew's clothes and backpack ready to go in the morning, all of my chores done, and a to do list for the week! I can't tell you what a difference it makes in my life starting the week off organized! It makes the week go so smoothly. I am looking forward to a great one!

curious - what kind of meals do you cook ahead of time? I could use some time saving tips!

I try to do as much of the busy work ahead of time as possible.

Last night, I roasted a chicken to make a chicken casserole later in the week. This is a messy job that is hard to do at 5 o'clock in the afternoon with kids running around!

I like buying whole chickens and slow roasting them b/c they seem much more tender than boiling chicken breasts.

I wash my veggies in preparation for using them later. Sometimes, I go ahead a cut up certain things ahead of time. If a recipe calls for grilled onions, I can do this ahead of time.

In the fall and winter, I make a lot of casseroles and stews. I always double the recipe, freeze half, and eat the other half over a few days.

These are a few tips that help make the week run a little more smoothly. Hope this helps!

I hope ME is feeling much better today. Goodness woman, you make me tired just reading about all the stuff you got done yesterday. ME must be a good patient, when my daughter was a baby and got sick, all she wanted was to be held and rocked. Of course, she is one of those "fortunate" folks for whom medicine hypes her up rather than makes her sleepy! Hang in there, it is so hard on Mom's when the kids are sick!

Our pediatrician's office has that -- well side and sick sides with separate entrances. It is nice to use the well side during shot visits, etc. without as much worry of catching something. We were just at our pediatrician's office again today for Seth, so we keep them in business these days.

Hope MaryBeth is feeling better today. I get nothing done on days when my kids are sick -- they become so clingy and just want to be held all day (and sometimes night!). Tell her to feel better from us...

Our clinic doesn't have sick/well sides. My kids have never gotten sick after going to well baby checkups so I guess so far the studies Kendra are referring to are true for me!

Yikes! "Most of the food cooked for the week!" You are a wonder woman! I would love to hear about that and what is on the menu! I am glad your baby is better- except for misplacing your child for a short time(which I did at Schlitterbahn many years ago) dealing with illness and high fever is the next worst thing!!!!! Oops - I am now reading your comments and see your menu! Awesome!
