They say that the three most important things when talking about housing are location...location...location. I am sure that this is even true in the animal world. If so, one little sparrow is probably regretting his choice in real estate.
I have been noticing lately, that when I open my front door, a bird flies off. Perhaps, I have been too busy to notice the past week, but today, I did some investigating. It turns out that a sparrow looked at my spring wreath, and thought the backside of it would make a great home for her four babies! Stephanie, do you remember me getting this wreath in Canton on our trip there a few years ago?
I am excited about the new arrivals, but am worried that five people going in and out of the door will give the mother bird a heart attack! Maybe we will just use the side entrance for the next few weeks!

It's a sign we need to go back to Canton...right?
The same thing happened to my mothers front door wreath. Then somehow the neighborhood cats figured out there were birds in there and would try to stretch and paw to get the nest. One night Mom heard a loud thud at the front door... the cats won. The wreath was downed and destroyed. Hopefully your birdnest story will not end this way!
How sweet! If it isn't too terribly inconvenient using the side door would probably be best. Is there some way you could move it to the side of the house or somewhere very close to the door but not hanging on the door itself? Thank goodness it isn't a bluejay, those Mamas can be mean! My head has suffered a few pecks because I unknowingly got too close to a nest.
Oh, that was tricky! I was all excited for you and your sister being pregnant together for a second there! I guess baby birds are the next best thing ;)
Your title threw me for a minute!!
How sweet to find a nest in your wreath, but tricky with high traffic. You'll have to keep us posted on the baby birds when they hatch.
Ha! Page, I very happily passed the baby making torch to my sister! The Baby Barnhill shop is now closed! ;)
How fun! My mom always gets a bird in her front door wreath at Christmas time. Then, the bird always flies in her house when she opens the door. Then, she drops whatever she is doing and vigorously spends the next 8 hours trying to get the bird out. Fun times!
