I got the news today that my sister, Lauren's, alpha fetal protein levels were low. This could be a sign of down syndrome. I have known several people who have had this test and it was a false positive. Apparently 60% of the time it is. If you have any words of encouragement for her, please drop her a comment.
She will have an ultrasound done on Friday and we will know for sure if my niece/nephew is healthy or not. And whether it is a niece or nephew!
Please pray!

I will certainly pray for her and you too, that God will grant you peace as you wait for answers. Remember these are human test and just like humans, they are often flawed!
This test has come back positive for a LOT of my friends & family too (Ken & Kim, Shawn & Lorraine, etc.) and all their kids are 100% fine. I know it will be an answered prayer, but I know it will be a long couple of days for her and Josh. On the bright side, she will be able to find out the sex a couple of weeks early!
My test showed positive with Julia and she is fine. I had a friend whose test came back fine, and her baby did have DS. The tests just aren't very helpful, if you ask me.
Around the time I found out about my test, Gene Stallings had written in Reader's Digest about their son who has DS. It was very comforting for me at the time. I knew God would equip us with what we would need to raise a DS child, if that were the case. I think it was an excerpt from his book.
I'll be praying for Lauren this week for a good report. My sister also had a false positive with the first baby and all was fine. It can be somewhat distressing during a time of such excitement.
I have heard of far more false postives than true positives...in fact I have never had a friend who had the test done have a true negative. But many, many false positives!!!
