I am taking a continuing education course this weekend to keep up with my certification. I am learning a new therapy technique that I need to use when I go back to work some in the fall.
This course can only be taken after an online 12 hour anatomy of the swallowing nerves and muscles refresher course. I am supposed to look over the muscles of the jaw and neck as well as the nerves that innervate them.
As I sat there anwering questions, it make me think of the questions I am generally asked on a daily basis such as:
"Can I go to the bathroom?"
"Can I go over to Ethan's house?"
"Will you tell Buddy to leave me alone?"
"What's for dinner?"
"Does my face look red?"
A sample question from one of the tests for my MBS course that I am expected to answer in essay form tonight:
"The muscle fibers of the buccinator run in an anteroposterior
direction. Explain how this orientation is appropriate considering the
role of this muscle in generating positive pressure in the oral cavity
during the end of the oral phase. Consider the attachments on either
side of the muscle."
Uhhhhhhh.....
Perhaps I'll ponder this question while making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches today.
Had a thought.

O.K., I can totally relate. I've been preparing for the class I'm teaching which begins in T-minus 4 weeks. Reading the text is making my brain hurt. I forgot how hard it was to trudge through all the research and "25 cent words" (as my H.S. English teacher used to say) while trying to comprehend the important stuff. Thankfully there's no test for me...just my students. ;)
I don't envy you. I'm convinced I lost very valuable brain cells during child birth. Good luck to you, Miss Scholar!
Oooh yuck! I forgot about tests and school and thinking! I've been contemplating the whole CPA route, but I don't like studying :(
Isn't the great when you realize how many facets of life you swim around in. And isn't it hard to make them all come together.
Simple mom questions are great when they are little. As they grow older, the simple mom questions get harder and make those text book questions seem really easy. The words are simplier but the effects are much more important.
Have fun growing all sides of the brain! I think that's what makes us women so interesting.....all the layers.
Best regards from NY! » »
