My garden

My Madame Issac Periere rose. My favorite flower in the garden. It is the most heavenly thing I have ever smelled!

(Warning: Potentially boring blog!)

Anyone who reads my blog knows how much I love to garden. Next to being with friends and family, it is my favorite activity! It's great for exercise, being outside with the kids, helping to beautify my environment, and take care of the earth God gave us. It makes me appreciate the here and now. Most of my beautiful flowers only last a few days. Some are gorgeous in the early spring and are gone until next year.

My dream is to go through the master gardener program in a few years when all my kids are in school. Can that really be only three years from now?

Yesterday, I was working back there and saw my first vegetable. A jalapeno! Who knew one little jalapeno could bring such joy? I decided to take a few pictures of my favorite plants in the back yard that are currently blooming:

This guy has been with my from the beggining of my garden. A few weeks ago, there was nothing in the ground but a few twigs. My hummingbirds love the spirea which makes me love it!

My Heritage rose is holding on to one of ME's hairs!

My vegetable garden is getting huge! I can wait to eat fresh veggies really soon!

We have lantanas all around our backyard. Some people around here think of them as weeds and hack theirs down, but I love the tiny little flowers and how they grow wild along our fence.

I know we're kindred spirits after reading about your love for gardening. My dream is work at a nursery. I've decided to do that when I retire instead of being a Wal-Mart greeter. Or, I may do that instead of going back to social work when our kids are in school. I feel like I have a sickness when it comes to buying plants. If I see something that catches my eye, I can't leave it at the nursery. I'm obsessed with my Southern Living garden and landscaping books. I can look at them for hours dreaming about what I would do with a huge yard and garden. I love all the pictures of your hard work. Isn't it rewarding?

Tesney-
My two S.L. gardening books along with my Texas Gardener are always open somewhere in the house!

You are in a much better area for gardening than I am. My grandmother lived in B'ham when I was growing up. My memories of her house include her gorgeous dogwood in the front, azaleas, as well as pine needles and sweet gum balls all over her lawn. I can still smell them.

The flowers are all beautiful. It is nice that there are people with green thumbs out there as mine is all black.

OK, I will admit it, I was just looking for a picture of the snake!

But the flowers are real pretty.

Sweetgum balls. We have those all over our driveway. Not good for when you're wearing heels and carrying your few-months-old baby. Yes, Jenna and I very nearly busted in our driveway once because I stepped on a sweetgum ball. When Hurricane Rita hit, I prayed it would take out that tree. It took out one in the backyard instead. :(

Donna-
My snake has gone AWOL. I think it realized it would be up against a crazed mother and decided to cut and run!

Deana-
I remember stepping on sweet gum balls with bare feet and slicing my fingers on pine needles. I guess you take the good with the bad!

Yes, Meredith, it is a Maggie. I have been really happy with it.

I love my gaura too. It looks like little butterflies are all over it!

Sorry about your snakes. You need to look into Snake Away. I have heard lots of good things about it.
