I have to say that this was a great weekend! It was blissfully uneventful. I cooked a big meal each night and we sat on the patio all three times! I love the time between bitterly cold and hellaciously hot where it is comfortable to eat outdoors. We take advantage of it as much as possible.
Bryon took the kids out several times during the weekend which gave me the opportunity to clean, cook, and read. I finished Secret Life of Bees and I really enjoyed it. The next book I am reading is a woman's diary from the end of the 1800s. It is about her life in the Arizona/New Mexico territory and by all accounts will make me thank the Lord that I was born in the time that I was born in! We are reading the follow up for book club in May so I need to read this one first.
Yesterday, I took the boys to a birthday party. I think this is a new trend. I have been to 4 parties in the past few months on Sunday afternoon! It was at a martial arts place and the boys enjoyed breaking boards, etc. Then Bryon and I worked in the front yard for the remainder of the day.
Has anyone else's nighttime schedule relaxed this week? I am such stickler for 8 p.m. bedtime, but it is nearly impossible during DST. It seems like we don't get around to eating until 7, we start getting ready for bed at 8, and Matthew is still reading in bed at 9 or later! It is even hard convincing ME that it is time for bed when the sun is still out!
I mentioned that we have been eating late. This is something that was NEVER DONE when I was growing up. Dad came home at 5:15 and we ate at 5:30. We still eat early when we eat with my parents. I remember growing up and hearing my cousin say that they ate dinner at 7. I remember my eyes got really big and I couldn't believe ANYONE ate that late! Now we are guilty as charged. No one seems to be hungry before that especially when the kids have a snack after school. Oh well, I hope I am not corrupting them too badly!
I feel refreshed and ready for a great week! We have activities every night this week, Matthew has a three day school week, and hopefully my nephew will make his appearance!
Had a thought.

We've been putting the girls to bed at 7:30 on school nights except for Sundays & Wednesdays. Last week was Spring Break, so it wasn't an issue. Now that she's back in school, I'm not sure what we're going to do because it's going to be really hard putting them to bed when it's bright daylight out.
I remember hating going to bed while it was light outside, but I really remember it from the summertime and all my friends were still outside playing at 10 pm or later!
As for dinner time, we always ate about 5:30 also, but now a 6 or 6:30 dinner time really works best for me. I have friends that prefer to eat 7:30 or later! Course we all don't have kids yet, but still that is way too late for me!
My girls have been going to bed at 8:00 this past week. I am enjoying the time change in the morning because it stays dark longer Kaylee stays in her bed longer which is nice for me.
We eat between 6:30 to 7:00 now that we are in Abilene and it only takes Cary 10 minutes to get home from work. Now when we were in Dallas the girls ate at 6:30 and I ate with Cary around 7:30 to 8:00. Of course I would have had a snack while watching Oprah to tide me over:)
Sounds like you had a great weekend. My goal is to work in the yard sometime within the next week. You have me motivated. I hope James makes an appearance this week...I know he is going to be adorable!!
My mother was a schedule hound. My dad got home from work at 6:10 and she had the supper table set with the newspaper laying beside his plate. He walked right in, washed his hands and we had dinner. I don't remember things EVER being off schedule. I guess that is why I'm the other end of the spectrum and very "whatever" as far as daily timing of schedules.
DST is rough when the kids are little and go to bed early. When we lived in Charlotte and were on EASTERN time, it didn't get dark FOREVER! My oldest was 6 at the time and he would say, "But it's not dark yet." I'd say, "Close your eyes and it will be dark."
I prefer to eat with my husband so that means we don't eat until he is home around 6:30 or 7pm. I feel it is more important to eat together than to eat early. Besides we are usually running around until at least 4:30 or later so who has time to get dinner on the table by 5:30 anyomre? YES bedtimes are getting later and I don't like it! I am ready for the care fee days of summer when we go to the 9 or 9:30 bedtime schedule.
My 8 year old is doing pretty good about keeping the bedtime schedule in spite of DST. It helps that her room has a shade as well as blinds, so the room is pretty dark. She needs to go to bed on time or she is a total grump at 6:30 when she has to get up! We do relax it a little on the weekends and of course on Weds. nights it is usually about an hour later due to church. She just seems to do better if we keep her on a schedule during the school year. Unfortunately dinner time tends to be whenever Darling Husband makes it home. I prefer it to be by 6, so that there is time to clean up the kitchen and play before bathtime (about 7:30) but it is more important that we eat together so sometimes it is closer to 7 before we eat.
Am I the only person who has to eat at 5:15/5:30 still? If I have to, I'll eat later, but I still eat the way we were raised.
Lauren,
You would do really well in an old folks home!
Thanks, sis!
Brett is able to come home early from work each day so we eat dinner at about 5:30. Of course all of our friends make fun of us for being so "old." =)
